Hello! I’m Amber, a graphic designer out of Portland, Oregon. After studying film in college, I was quickly drawn to the art department due to the creative nature of visual world-building. Bringing stories to life through art and design is something that continues to inspire and excite me. I’m also a sucker for any sort of arts and crafts, and this is the wonderfully special type of job where those diverse skills come in handy.
GRAPHIC DESIGNER FOR FILM & TV
ONE THING ABOUT ME: I LOVE A GOOD SIGN.
On season 2 of “1923”, I had the pleasure of creating a variety of 1920s storefront signage for various scenes set in New York, Texas, Oklahoma, Montana, and Wyoming. My favorite signs always seem to be the ones that are funky shapes such as the oyster, hat, and boot signs you’ll see below.
One of my favorite sets from “1923” season 2 was Grand Central Station (à la 1920s). For me, this set started with the floor. I was given photos of a hand painted swatch of this pink marble flooring and used the images to stitch together a variation of tiles. For the signage above the arch and ticket booths, I researched and created them with period-accurate fonts and verbiage. I also recreated the iconic ticket booth screens in a vector file that was then CNC’d by our team.
